Day 13, It's not a race

We set off today with the aim of reaching Kuala Rompin. We had no idea about any hotels or accommodation there, but we figured that as we were riding along the coast we shouldn't have too many problems finding a place to stay. We were tired and I found it hard to keep going at the speed we had pursued the last few days. By 9am it was already scorching hot, and I resolved that there was no point in racing to try to avoid the sun, suncream, slow riding and water were the key.

Nico on the first beach
After about an hours riding, we rejoined the coast. We stopped at a completely deserted, absolutely stunning beach for some food. I wanted to fall asleep and stay there all day, but  I knew that in a couple of days we would hopefully reach the island of Tioman and used this to force myself back on the bike.

After 45km, we reached a small town called Nenasi and had an ice cream. We also stopped for an hour around lunch, no gone off rice today, our new strategy is loaves of bread and tins of tomato chilli tuna. Successful. The road was long, straight, flat and not particularly inspiring. Although flat roads are brilliant because they have no uphills, they also have no downhills, which means you have to constantly pedal and pedal and pedal and pedal....anyway, it gets monotonous.

Victory at the end of the day!
We finally reached Kuala Rompin, which is 20km from the ferry terminal to the Tioman island around 3pm. It is not a pretty town, and we toyed with the idea of continuing along the road until we found something more visually pleasing. Eventually though, we found a cheap and clean hotel and decided not to punish ourselves anymore. This paid off when we discovered the beach, 1km from the centre of town - amazing! We stayed here to watch the sunset, then went back for some food and sleep.
