Day 38, Nha Trang to Danang by soft sleeper train

Luxury!

We got up very early to be at the train station at 5:15am. We were surprised to be the only one there 20 minutes before the departure. There was certainly a reason this time, we waited for one hour before getting on the train. Fortunately, we had booked soft sleeper tickets and had a four bed compartment only for us. Conditions are very comfortable and it didn’t take long for us to go back to sleep.

Cycling into Danang to find
a hotel
We arrived in Danang at 3pm. Danang is the third biggest city in Vietnam, less touristy but with a long, famous stretch of sand called China Beach. We had a look at two hotels in the city but they were not good value for money. We decided to cycle 4km more and find a hotel next to the beach instead.

We may have eaten one of
these fish
I didn’t know what to make of China beach at first. I’m sure in few years this place will be a big beach resort as found everywhere in the world. We finally found a satisfactory hotel and had dinner in posh fish restaurant on the beach. We had totally no idea about what to order because nothing was written in English and there were no prices.  This place was crowded with Vietnamese. No problem, a waiter presented us the fish specialties and we pointed at a poor fish from an aquarium. It finished up 30 minutes later on our plate being deboned by the same waiter: what a fate.

China beach is definitely not a place like Nha Trang. The tourists are not the same here and we feel like we are not the target customers. It is also a building site! It will look very different in a few years.
